Obituary for Brandon Myles Sylvester

GREEN ISLAND – Brandon Myles Sylvester, 17, died tragically on Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Brandon was born in Niskayuna on August 8, 2002 and was the much loved son of Timothy Patrick and Ellie (Fernet) Sylvester. He was currently a high school student, in his junior year, at Heatly School in Green Island.

From an early age Brandon excelled with his knowledge relating to electronics and devices such as cell phones and computers. He was his family’s self taught tech guru and was the person many turned to with technical questions or to fix a problem. He enjoyed developing computer programs and video games and once turned his PlayStation into a server that allowed him to play a video game he created. He was always eager to learn, solve problems and share his acquired knowledge with people, via his computer, all over the world.

Brandon had many wonderful qualities and honesty was perhaps his best. He was a good cook, a skill he developed because of his selective eating habits. He was blessed with the “gift of gab” and enjoyed sharing conversations with others. Spending the summers and swimming at Caroga Lake was a favorite of Brandon’s and it was there that he taught his sister how to swim. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was proud of having received the Aaronic Priesthood and passing the Sacrament. He loved the Church, its leaders and teachers. Brandon was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed being a student at Heatly School and appreciated all of his teachers. He was involved in several high school activities which included membership in Club Wired, doing the music for plays, serving on the student council and making the daily announcements.

Brandon was the cherished and best brother of Jenna and Serina Sylvester; he was the great-grandson of William (late Irene) Hegarty; grandson of William and Ella Fernet and Paul (Carol) Sylvester and the late Annina Sylvester ; nephew of Beth Fronczek (John), Jeffrey Sylvester, Jason Sylvester (Jodi), Samantha (Megan) Kennedy, William Fernet, Jr., Edward Fernet, Timothy (April) Fernet, Sue Connell (Desmond) and Myke Mero and the late Maria Fernet. He is also survived by many cousins and good friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 411 Loudon Road (Route 9) Loudonville, NY. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Brandon’s family on Sunday from 4 until 7 pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to those who have been there during this difficult time and to express a special thanks to the community of Green Island.
