Obituary for Rita DeCarlo Sardos

Albany – Rita DeCarlo Sardos, a long-time resident of New York City, died on May 11, 2020 in Albany, NY.

Born in 1932 in Jersey City, NJ, she enjoyed a twenty-eight-year career as a lyric mezzo-soprano, singing in many of the important opera companies in the United States and Canada. Mrs. Sardos was president of Sardos Artists Management Corporation of New York, NY, a business founded by her husband in 1955. She had also been a member of the faculty of the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria.

She was wife of the late James Sardos; sister of the late Marie Bookhop and Catherine White, aunt of Lauren White (Alex Gansa), Pacific Palisades, CA, Carol Bishop (Stephen Barber), Westlake Village, CA and Rita Bookhop, Latham, NY.

A private Rite of Committal and interment will be in Beechwoods Cemetery, New Rochelle, NY.

A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
