Obituary for Margery W. Woodard (Waeckerle)

LOUDONVILLE – Margery Waeckerle Woodard, 97, died peacefully Monday, July 27, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Loudonville.

She was born in St. Louis, MO on April 21, 1923, the daughter of the late August Waeckerle and Margaret Burckhardt Waeckerle. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in elementary education, spending many years teaching in five different states.

She was the wife of the late Donald M. Woodard who died in 2002; beloved mother of Karl (Kathy) Woodard of Cumming, GA and Donna W. (Harry) Miller of Loudonville. In addition to her children, she is survived by a granddaughter, Tracy (Christopher) Norris; and great-grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Norris. Her grandson, Christopher Miller, predeceased her in 2012.

Margery was passionate about teaching others to enjoy her many interests, including sewing, traveling and exploring the family's history. She enjoyed the loyal friendship of the dozens of people she met throughout the many cross-country moves necessitated by her husband's work with Hilton Hotels. She loved to travel by car with her husband, and managed to see more than half the states.

She will be remembered for her willingness to volunteer for any task where she thought she could help, her lively stories about life in her beloved St. Louis, and her amazing ability to put people at ease. Margery was grateful for her long life, and felt especially blessed by her life with her loving husband and her family. She embraced her 97 years, and successfully lived life on her own terms.

Private graveside services will be held in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY. 12866.

Arrangements are by the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home in Latham.
