Obituary for George M. "Red" Hachigian

WATERVLIET – George M. “Red” Hachigian, 90, died Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Hudson Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Albany.

George was born in Watervliet on April 6, 1930, the son of the late James and Nancy Markarian Hachigian. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, he was a 1948 graduate of Watervliet High School.

He was employed by the Welcome Inn (now Deacon Blues) in Watervliet, US Postal Service in Albany, Brickman Produce in Menands and McGeary’s Irish Pub in Albany.

He was a member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet and a member of its Seniors Club and a member of the Simonian Avakian Post.

George was a huge sports fan and loved the NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, Boston Celtics and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He went every year to opening day at the Saratoga Race Course.

He is the beloved brother of Helena A. Ekmalian of Watervliet and the late Mary Hachigian, Lucy Ohanian, Dorothy Tamanian and Sarkis Hachigian; loving uncle of Gean A. (Terri Garibaldi) Ekmalian and John “Frenchie” (Debbie) Ekmalian. He is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews and many cousins in Massachusetts.

The family would like to thank Terri Garibaldi and Brittni for all of their special assistance to the family.

Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Saturday from 9-10 am. A graveside service will follow at 10:30 am at Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy with Rev. Stepanos Doudoukjian officiating.
