Obituary for George R. DeLong

GREEN ISLAND – George R. DeLong, 64, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his home in Green Island. He was born in Troy on October 18, 1956, the son of the late George M. and Lucille Desmarais DeLong.

George was raised in Green Island and was a lifelong resident of the village. He was a graduate of Heatly School and later attended Hudson Valley Community College for Electrical Technology.

He was employed by the Golub Corporation in their warehouse in Rotterdam, worked for the Albany County Sewer Authority and most recently was a maintenance worker at the Heatly School. He also was a trained electrician.

George was a member of the Green Island Sons of the American Legion at the Legnard-Curtin Post #927 in Green Island. He was a proud member of the Color Guard and participated in many parades and functions for the American Legion.

George loved music and was the manager and sound man for the Chaser Rock Band based in Green Island for many years.

He was the beloved brother of Diane M. (Joseph J.) DeConno, Sr. of Hedges Lake in Cambridge; loving uncle of Joseph J. DeConno, Jr. of Charlton, Lisa Marie DeConno Russo of Cambridge and David J. (Jessica) DeConno of Gansevoort. He is also survived by 9 grandnieces and grandnephews and many friends.

Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Wednesday from 4-6 pm. The American Legion funeral ritual and a celebration of his life service will follow at 6 pm at the funeral home.
