Obituary for Carleton Andrew "Carl" Fruscio

WATERVLIET – Carleton Andrew “Carl” Fruscio, a lifelong resident of Watervliet, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the young age of 66.

Carl was born in Troy on August 15, 1955 and was the son of the late Arthur J. Fruscio, Sr. and Winifred M. (Harris) Fruscio. He was raised and educated in Watervliet and attended the former Sacred Heart of Mary Grammar School and Watervliet High School where he excelled in sports and was an accomplished athlete. In his high school years, Carl played football, baseball and basketball. His athleticism would accompany him throughout his life as he later enjoyed boxing, fishing, and golfing at the Mechanicville Golf Club where he was a member. He also played softball with various teams in leagues throughout the area. In addition to playing sports, Carl also enjoyed coaching little league baseball and CYO basketball for his children. He was a member of and the last president of the former Watervliet Arsenal Golf League, which was founded by his father.

Carl had a passion for music and could often be found listening to or singing his favorite Elvis and Motown songs. He was also a classic car enthusiast. Carl spent years playing basketball at the Watervliet Civic Center where he was a role model and a local legend to the youth of Watervliet and surrounding cities. The times he spent with his family were what he cherished most, and his children and grandchildren were always a constant source of pride. He could always be counted on to be at their games, events and activities, supporting each of them and rooting them on. He cared dearly for his loving companions Rainbow, Oreo, Bella, and Rocky. As a member of a large and loving family, Carl appreciated his many friends and the Watervliet community. His presence will be missed by all those who knew him and whose lives he touched.

Carl was employed with the City of Watervliet Department of Public Works and later with Al-Tech Specialty Steel Corporation. He spent the rest of his career with the Watervliet Arsenal from where he retired.

Carl was the much loved husband and best friend of Catherine A. (Caulfield) Fruscio; he was the best father to Dominic (Melissa) Fruscio, Carleton (Jennifer Gates) Fruscio, James (Joanna) Fruscio and Nicole (Joseph) Pasinello; the cherished grandfather of Anthony Pasinello, Joey Pasinello, Jr., Santino Pasinello, Brandon Fruscio, Christian Fruscio, Cameron Fruscio, Jake Fruscio, Evan Fruscio and Ella Fruscio; the dear brother of David (Pat) Fruscio, Donel Prendergast, Arthur (Pam) Fruscio, Jr., Richard (Joyce) Fruscio, Daniel (Sharon) Fruscio, Peter Fruscio and the late Angelynne Moffre whose husband Michael survives; the devoted son-in-law to the late James P. and Caroline (Armstrong) Caulfield; the best brother-in-law to Helen and Mark McCabe, Marge and Tim Cavanaugh, Scott Skinner and the late Jane Skinner, and Daniel Budka. Carl is also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and shared a special relationship with his niece Sarah Skinner.

Friends are invited to visit with Carl’s family on Wednesday from 3pm until 6pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet. From 6pm until 7pm, family and friends are invited to share stories and memories of Carl and at 7pm, the evening will conclude with a prayer service by the Reverend John F. Tallman. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of customary remembrances and in recognition of Carl’s devotion to the children of Watervliet, the Fruscio family suggests donations be made to the Watervliet Civic Center, P.O. Box 164, Watervliet, NY 12189 in his memory.
