Obituary for James J. Corbett Jr.

Latham - James (Jim) Joseph Corbett, CLU, of Latham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 21st at age 92. He was born on September 21, 1929, the second of five children to Watervliet Fire Chief James Joseph Corbett and his wife Mary (Duffy).

In 1964, he married Kathleen Curtis of Troy. They moved to Latham and raised their three children: Jay, Colleen, and Maureen. He proudly served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was an agent for New York Life Insurance Company for 50 years. A devout Catholic, Jim ushered at Our Lady of the Assumption church in Latham for over 50 years.

Jim was always positive and there when people needed him. He was very proud of his children and all their accomplishments and was proud to be able to help them with their education. He enjoyed good conversation and telling stories. He loved animals and cared for many pets over the years, including several dogs and a cat. In his younger years he could often be found on the golf course. Jim was also a longtime member of the Colonie-Watervliet Lodge of Elks.

He is preceded in death by sisters; Marge Corbett Calacone Mlock, Rita Corbett, and Alice (late Leo) Fiacco, and is survived by his sister Mary (late Hank) Ruther of Colorado Springs, his wife Kathleen, his children; Jay (Steve) of San Jose, Colleen (Larry) of Shrewsbury, MA, and Maureen (Reid) of Watervliet, his grandchildren, Ivy and Mason, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 27 at Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home in Latham from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 28 at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating and interment to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.
