Obituary for Lois C. Madcharo (Carpenter)

SCHENECTADY – Lois Carpenter Madcharo, 92, died peacefully at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston, Iowa with her family at her side.

She was born in Schenectady on September 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Arthur and Cecelia Corneau Carpenter. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Mildred Elley Business School.

Lois was a homemaker raising her three children. She worked various jobs before becoming a secretary for the US Dept. of Naval Reserves in Scotia where she worked for over 15 years before retiring.

Lois loved to crochet and knit and was an avid reader. At the age of 90, she started using Facebook and also was fluent in using Facetime and texting. She was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood and was a member of the choir and ladies society.

She was the beloved wife of the late Constantine K. Madcharo who died February 12, 2014; loving mother of Gregory K. Madcharo of Brunswick, Maine, Patricia K. Madcharo of Schenectady and Eric C. (Catherine) Madcharo of Urbandale, Iowa; adored grandmother of Nicholas, Taylor, Victoria and Chad; sister of the late Lorena Fenzel; aunt of Diane (Bruce) O’Connor of Altamont; great aunt of Daniel, David and Megan.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlands Creek Retirement Community, Mercy Westlakes Hospital and MercyOne Hospice all in Iowa for the wonderful care given to our mother.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 am at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, 21 Archibald Street, Watervliet, NY (Maplewood) with Rev. Peter Olsen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Basil’s Church on Friday prior to the service from 9:00 -11:00 am.
