Obituary for Gregory Nazarian

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Gregory Nazarian, 89, entered into eternal rest at his home on his 65th wedding anniversary on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

He was born in Watervliet, NY, the son of the late Aghajan and Verkina Tabakian Nazarian, Greg loved to tell the story that he was born in a taxi cab. He has resided in Loudonville since 1963.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, Greg met the love of his wife, nurse “Maggie” Marjorie Lowder. They later married on August 11, 1957 in Sturgis, South Dakota.

After returning from service to his country, Greg became an area businessman, owning several service stations, including Nazarian’s Shell Station, located at Albany Shaker and Osborne Roads, along with Nazarian’s Car Wash. He also owned the Lucky 13 Bar and Grill in Watervliet in the late 60s and early 70s.

A musician at heart, he started “The Greg Nazarian Dance Band” and “The Count Basement Band.” His band, “The Greg Nazarian Trio” enjoyed playing for the residents in area nursing homes. In more recent years, he played saxophone with “The Swing Docs.”

Greg was a member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet and had served on the Parish Council for several years.

The family would like to thank Greg’s caregivers, Miranda Baldes, Jennifer Esposito and Christina Bender for their excellent care of our father.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie Ann Lowder Nazarian in 2015, he is survived by his devoted daughters, Kimberly (Jay) Ashby of Oberlin, OH and Marion (James) Kehrer of Albany; his grandchildren, Tomas, Lucas and Ian Ashby, James (Jenna) Kehrer, Gregory (Christine) Kehrer, Jillian Kehrer and Daniel (Julia) Kehrer; and great grandchildren, Harper, Lilliana and Maverick.

Greg was predeceased by his siblings, Lucy Krikorian, Andrew Nazarian, John “Argo” Nazarian, Dorothy Giunta and Marion Arghnian. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his four legged pal, J.D.

Relatives and friends may call at the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church, 255 Spring Avenue, Troy, NY on Saturday, August 20th from 10:00 am-12 noon followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Interment will be beside his wife, Marjorie in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.
