Obituary for Elizabeth D. Doviak (Donahue)

MENANDS – Elizabeth Donahue Doviak, 82, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Albany Medical Center.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 6, 1939, the daughter of the late Leo Thomas Donahue and Nellie Olson Donahue. She attended North High School in Minneapolis and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in art and teaching.

She moved to Washington, DC to pursue a position as a teacher in an arts program. She became a congressional secretary for Congressman Clark MacGregor from 1964-1970 and later for Congressman Bill Frenzel of the Minnesota Third District from 1970-1976.

Elizabeth moved to Menands in 1976 when her husband Leonard took a position with General Electric Co. in Schenectady. She pursued her interest as an antique dealer until 2008. She was a member of the Menands Book Club for over 40 years and loved gardening and the theater.

Elizabeth was active in the Albany Institute of History & Art, Rensselaer County Historical Society, Arts Center of the Capital District, WMHT, Albany Rural Cemetery Association, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, NYS Writers Institute, Proctors Theater and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

She was the wife of the late Leonard Kent Doviak; sister of Caroline Donahue Wedin of Boca Raton, FL and the late Maryanne Moy and Charles James Donahue; aunt of Maya (Jack) Bonatz of Vermont, Deborah (Jeff) Kahel of Tallahassee, FL, Boyd Wedin of Boca Raton, FL., Peter Donahue and Maria (Ken) Sowers of Washington and John (Patti) Donahue of North Carolina. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews and cherished her beloved cat, Rhubarb.

A brief committal service will be held Tuesday, August 16th at 2:00 pm at the Albany Rural Mausoleum, Cemetery Avenue, Menands.
