Obituary for Marion Elizabeth Lord (Schwartz)

LATHAM – Marion Elizabeth Lord, age 93, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family.

Marion, the third of nine children of Morris and Dorothy (Stowe) Schwartz, was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 9, 1929.

Marion’s formative years were spent in Philadelphia where she received her education. She was married to Victor G. Lord, Sr. and resided in Yardley and Levittown, PA. Victor’s railroad employment required them to relocate to Chicago, IL Syracuse, NY and Columbus, Ohio before settling in Latham in 1977. Marion was employed by J.C. Penney in Latham and Bank of America in Loudonville from where she retired.

Marion was an active and long-time member of the Loudonville Presbyterian Church and was especially proud to have sung in the church choir. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed visiting casinos, especially in Atlantic City, NJ as well as playing the game of Mahjong with her senior friends. She and Victor enjoyed world travel and her Fourth of July parties were an anticipated event for family and friends for 20 years. Marion’s dedication to and love for her family transcended everything else in her life. Her heart filled with pride as each generation arrived and she especially doted on her grandson, Derek and great grandson, Myles.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Dorothy; her husband Victor and five siblings. She is survived by her children, Victor G. (Paula) Lord, Jr., Karen (John) Traeger and April Odom; her grandson, Derek Odom (fiancé, Morgan Rosekrans); her great-grandson, Myles Odom; her sisters, Caroline Oliver, Mildred Cal and Dorothy Schwartz as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marion’s family offers a heartfelt thank you to Reverend Elaine Woroby for her years of love and friendship and to the nurses and staff of the third floor at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany for the care and support provided to Marion and her family during her stay.

A funeral service will be celebrated by the Reverend Elaine Woroby, pastor of the Loudonville Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday at 12:30 pm in the Bowen & Parker Brothers Funeral Home. 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Marion’s family on Tuesday, prior to the service, beginning at 10 am.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family suggests, with gratitude, that donations be directed to the Loudonville Presbyterian Church, 22 Old Niskayuna Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bowenandparkerbros.com with Marion’s family.
