Obituary for Anthony J. Solini
COHOES – Anthony J. Solini, 92, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully Thursday, June 1, 2023 in the comfort of his home with his family at his side. He was born in Watervliet on October 29, 1930, the son of the late Samuel and Marianna Natarelli Solini.
He was a 1949 graduate of Watervliet High School and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended night school for many years at Siena College to receive his Bachelor’s degree.
Tony was employed for over 30 years by Tek Hughes in Watervliet where he was the manager of industrial engineering. He resided in Watervliet until 1993 when he moved to Cohoes with his wife Eleanor.
He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Watervliet where he was chairman of the finance committee, member of the Holy Name Society, member of the Bocci League and the cook of the famous Pizza Frita every year at the church bazaar. He currently was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Menands and a member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club after mass every day.
He was a board member for the Watervliet Civic Center for over 25 years. Tony enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was a want to be cowboy because he loved western movies and books. He also enjoyed playing his trumpet in his younger years.
He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor L. Mazacone Solini who died in 2019; devoted father of John (Mary Colleen) Solini of Venice, FL, Gerard Solini of Manhattan, KS, Mary (William) Hartzell of Clifton Park, Paul Solini of Cohoes and Joe (Michele) Solini of Sterling, VA; brother of Gina Morrissey of Queensbury and the late Olga Barron, Mary Solini and Emma Lyons. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Joan of Arc Church, 76 Menand Road, Menands on Friday, June 9th from 8-9 am; followed by his funeral mass at 9:00 am. Following cremation, his ashes will be entombed with his wife Eleanor’s at Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday, June 12th at 1 pm where military honors will be accorded.
