Obituary for Linda A. Shevy (Surprenant)

WATERVLIET – Linda A. (Surprenant) Shevy, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 10, 2024 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with her family at her side.

She was born in Troy on January 25, 1955, the daughter of the late James and Marilyn (Powers) Surprenant. She was raised in Green Island and was a graduate of Heatly School.

Linda was employed earlier in her career by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. She retired from the job she loved as a retirement review counselor with the NYS Local Retirement System where she worked for over 15 years before retiring in 2016.

She served as Executive Vice President of her union, CSEA for many years. She was a member of the Watervliet Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 and was a member of the auxiliary of the 105th Military Police Association.

Linda loved to play golf, camping on Lake George, tubing on the Hudson River, and trips to Atlantic City and various casinos. She especially cherished the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren.

She is the beloved life partner of 20 years of Michael “Mike” Essenter; devoted mother of Timothy R. (Angela) Shevy of Schodack and Christine Murray (Jayson Ward) of Stillwater; adored grandmother of Joseph and Lucas Shevy, Addison and Hazel Ward; dear sister of Edward (Yong) Surprenant of Palm Coast, FL, William Surprenant of Lansingburgh and the late Lori Ryan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
