COHOES – Joan M. Grillo Burke, 77, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully Monday, July 16, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Troy on November 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Mary Gulley Grillo. Joan was raised in Watervliet and was a 1959 graduate of Watervliet High School where she was voted “Best Dancer” in her class.
She was employed at the Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands where she met her husband Mike and later by the NY Telephone Company. She then was a homemaker raising her six children. Later she returned to work for Key Bank in Corporate Woods in the Commercial Loan Department.
She enjoyed playing bingo at the Watervliet K of C and the Latham Elks, trips to the Saratoga Race Course and the Racino.
She is the beloved wife of 57 years of Michael D. Burke; devoted mother of Anne Marie (Joseph) Bilynsky of Latham, Mary Griffin (Sandra Guerin) of Malta, Michael K. Burke (Holly Adamkowski) of Loudonville, Dean Burke of Colonie, Sean (Liza) Burke of Colonie and the late Kevin Michael Burke and Kathleen Mary Burke; adored grandmother of Joey, Kevin, Jimmy, Michael, Meaghan, Marissa, Emma, Kayla, Joshua and Cayden; dear sister of the late Mary Ann (late Harry) Cushing; special aunt of Keith (Patsy) Cushing and great aunt of Devin Cushing of Rexford.
The family would like to thank Dr. Numan Rashid and Dr. Michael Willen, the staff from the 4th floor of Samaritan Hospital especially GiGi and Jillian and Community Hospice for the wonderful care given to Joan.
The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 pm.
